2008 Resolutions continued: Health, Weight, Exercise

So I started back on the diet and exercise program and hope I can tell everyone I weigh 30 lbs less 4 months from now or so.
How am I going to get there?
Regular exercise (walking, hiking, weights, circuit, yoga), managed food intake (low carbs , no bread rice potatoes and so on) and lots of protein and veggies, easy on the everything else.
One of the hardest things: Giving up diet soda. (I am going to hate doing this).
Why am I doing it?
This NYTimes article on metabolic syndrome says diet soda is the trigger, the thing that makes the odds go waay up scared me big time.
What is motiviating me?
