Quote of the Day

“There are no words to explain my rage. These people were supposed to be our friends.”
–Missouri mom Tina Meier, quoted in a NY Times story reporting how her 13 year old daughter Megan killed herself after a relationship with an online boyfriend ended and she was subsequentlycyber-bullied.
The boyfriend turned out to be the creation of Lori Drew, a vengeful mom down the blog who was not charged with any crime.

This is certainly a crime. An adult drove a child to suicide, in a carefully planned campaign. Furthermore, according to news reports, the adult know the child was on antidepresive medication, so Megan was obviously at particular risk. If this had been done face-to-face, the adult would be in jail now. The fact that it was done over the internet doesn’t change the facts, just perhaps confuses and delays the legal authorities.

These two families live very close to me and I have been following this story for a while. It is appalling that a parent would stoop so low as to deceive a child on the internet for the purpose of their own selfish agenda.
The Drews are getting quite harassed and it was reported this morning that they will have to move due to neighbors spreading as much hate as possible.
It is precisely why my teenager’s Facebook account is in my name and I have full access to it at all times.

this story has exploded over the last couple of months. apparently the mom (ringleader) of the group who caused the girl to kill herself has a blog. it was shameful to read.
