The social media ecosystem: Using events to promote your project/product/brand

I’m spending Monday, May 18th in Los Angeles teaching a group of media entrepreneurs about marketing and social media for the News Entrepreneur Boot Camp, Knight Digital Media Center at the USC Annenberg School for Communication.

One of my workshops is Using Media and Events to Promote Your Concept: How will the audience find out what you have for it?

The intro for the session reads:
If only build it, they will come were true. Fact is, funders look long and hard at audience acquisition plans when evaluating your product, team and business plan.
•    How do you get out into the market fast and start building awareness and engagement?
•    How do you craft partnerships, promotion plans and events to get people to your site–and to make that viral buzz thing take off?

This session focuses on how creating the means to make sure the audience finds out what you have for it–even if staff and budgets are small. We will create marketing, promotion and distribution plan for your product, and a timeline for when key elements will kick in.

I am going to talk about the Knight News Challenge, twestival, BarCamps, unconferences, meetups, and so on.

A kick off little set of visuals are in this powerpoint deck:
